A Big Bag of Gay
Well, it has been a long time, hasn't it? Does anyone even check LJ anymore? I don't know, call me old fashioned, but I kind of miss this place and I miss all you lovely people telling me about your lovely lives and carrying on lovely conversations about silly but important things. *Blowing kisses to you all* Fangirl wise, I haven't been terribly obsessed with anything in particular these days. I am just counting the days until Bomb Girls and Tierra de Lobos comes back to me. And, seriously, the wait is beginning to hurt. I did finally fall down the big dark hole called "Myka/HG" shipping just in time to see H.G. sent away so that was great timing on my part. But until my precious shows premiere (30 Rock and Community, come back ... Parks & Rec is fabulous but not enough to fill the big hole in my heart).

While I was away, the Emmys happened. No one I was rooting for won. The Christina Hendricks loss really hurt, like I was cut by a dull razor or, you know, like I just found out a work colleague committed suicide in the office next door. *Sobs Joanie* But let's get on to more pleasant topics of conversation. First, a few announcements which you probably already know about, but I will make you aware anyway:

Just a reminder that NBC's Chicago Fire is set to give us our only new lesbian series regular on network TV this season. Behold, Lauren German as Leslie Shay .. Chicago paramedic who kicks ass and takes names. Well, I don't know if the latter part is true, but one can only hope.

Jennifer Lopez's production company (Oh, JLo) sold a pilot written by Peter Paige (Emmett from Queer as Folk) about a bi-racial lesbian couple to ABC Family. The drama called "The Fosters" just cast its couple.... Teri Polo & Sherri Saum will play Stef and Lena. I haven't been excited by something JLo has produced since .. well ... ever.

Ryan Murphy is going to make you watch one of his shows. He just cast Leisha Hailey and Constance Zimmer as a lesbian couple in The New Normal. I know, I hate it too.

Remember how I said a few paragraphs ago that I wasn't really into any thing new. Well, I lied. I know. How could I? Truth be told, I've been catching up on old and new TV shows from all corners of the globe once I realized I've exhausted pretty much all shows in the U.S. and Canada (there is only so many times you can watch Callie and Arizona kiss awkwardly or Bo and Lauren kiss hotly). So, while we are here, let's just keep the big ball of lesbian rolling and make this one big gay TV/film fest. A post full of things you may enjoy. Shall we? Say it with me now...

El Elegido - Greta/Paloma

I can safely say this show has broken me in a good way. This soap from Argentina aired late last year and was an award winning, critically acclaimed show and after watching just a fraction of it, I can see why. THIS IS EVERYTHING I COULD EVER WANT IN A SOAP. If only there was a way I can magically download all 150+ episodes into my brain so I can enjoy it at any lull in my work day. The soap is revolves around a crooked law firm and its associates. The firm's lead partner is basically evil in a suit and has a firm hold over his employees. There is no escape from the firm (sound familiar). One of the show's supporting players is Greta, a closeted lesbian who spends the first part of the soap trying to hide her sexuality from her evil boss and then gets mixed up in all manner of evil plot twists when her ex-girlfriend gets pregnant by her boss's also evil son. Oh, soaps .. how I love thee! In the show's final third, Greta falls in love with Paloma, a sweet, lovely designer who is an oasis from Greta's miserable, complicated work life. While the show didn't spend too much time on the Greta/Paloma love story, the actors have tremendous chemistry and milked ever single scene they were in together for just about every once of passion and tenderness they could. The show treated their love story and subsequent coupledom with a ton of respect and unlike a lot of other soaps, the main thrust of their arc wasn't about their sexuality, it was about Paloma's love allowing Greta to find a way out of a miserable place. The only real flaw in this story was I wish Paloma was developed a bit more, but still it is excellent. If you like soaps, if you like seeing a love story that doesn't have a man in the middle of it, if you like watching a story that isn't wall-to-wall "ohmigod I'm gay" angst, then check it out. On a side note, Mónica Antonópulos who plays Greta is just pure excellence and her perfection makes me want to weep tears of blood. And another side note... I think non-American actresses need to come to America and teach our actresses how to play gay women. With a few notable exceptions, I never believe any actress playing a gay woman on (network) TV actually wants to fuck the women they are supposed to be with and/or love. That is NOT a problem here.

Terapia d’urgenza - Marina/Esther

Oh, hey... Spain's Hospital Central was remade into an Italian version and they kept the Maca/Esther storyline and it was still kind of adorable! In the Italian version, it is Marina/Esther, but the characters are still the same and lovely and I found myself shipping them lots even though it wasn't as good as Hospital Central. I also quite enjoyed a few of the changes the show made to their arc .. like how Esther had a boyfriend and we got a few scenes of a clearly in love Marina having to watch Esther take her loser boyfriend back (she clearly lost her mind). There was also a subplot about Esther's father NOT having it when Esther said revealed she found the love of her life and it was a woman. The bad news is that the show lasted only one season and it ended on a cliffhanger that was Grey's Anatomy sized ridiculous and it was never resolved. But, I think we all know where the show was headed. So watch it, but you've been warned!

Verbotene Liebe - Rebecca/Marlene

FINALLY, this soap is getting good again. After one, long, miserable summer of having to endure Marlene shouting to anyone who would listen that she loves Tristan so much she could puke, the show has finally entered the next act of this storyline ... the one where Marlene realizes that she loves her fiancee's sister and that the sex they had months ago completely broke her brain. I say again FINALLY! But all and all, this is a soap done right even though I was getting to the point that I wanted to strangle Marlene. I mean when you have such a irrational reaction, the soap must be doing something right.

Mujeres Asesinas

An anthology series from Mexico, this episode is gay and hot and gay and wrong. If you ever want to know what death by hate-sex looks like ... watch this episode.

A Touch of Cloth

This is the show I've been waiting for all my life. Okay, well, not all my life but for some time. A spoof of British crime dramas nails just about every single cliche you've seen on cop shows (both in the UK and here) and there is a bit of gay to boot. The clip above features the gay, but I'd recommend the entire show (it's only 2 episodes thus far). It is so perfect. As a fan of The Naked Gun, this is just right up my alley. Also, I have a thing for Suranne Jones' face ever since she was on that Doctor Who episode last year. I've been watching her in other shows ... where she plays a cop ... and my favorite so far is Scott and Bailey so I recommend that as well. I mean ... look at her face.

The Bletchley Circle

And speaking of Bomb Girls. Oh, we weren't? Well, we bloody well should be, this show has made waiting for the return of that show a bit easier. World War II lady code breakers reunite to stop a serial killer in London ten years after the war ended. It is a fantastic show and I hope it comes back.

NOT ENOUGH GAY FOR YOU, you say, well .. here ... a whole bunch of gay short films.

She Said Lenny

This is one of the best gay short films I've seen. I wish it was longer!!

Empty Sky

Now, this is NOT the full film, just the trailer. To get the short film, go to the film's Facebook page for information on how the director will email a link to the full film (no, really, it works and you should do it)

Somewhere Only We Know

This film is wonderfully shot. Just lovely!

The Other War

I haven't actually watched this entire film yet, but I've heard great things!

our only new lesbian series regular on network TV this season.

I think there are two others: Julie White's character on Go On and another one on Mamie Gummer's doctor show but I'm blanking on the actress's name.

And I will be forever grateful to you for introducing the wonderfulness that is Greta/Paloma into my life. Now excuse me while I go cry in a corner because I will never see something like that on Peruvian television.

Ohhhh, is Julie White's character a regular? I just thought she was a guest star. I stand corrected.

GRETA AND PALOMA HAVE BROKEN MY BRAIN. IT ISN'T EVEN THAT THEIR STORY IS THE BEST WRITTEN OR BEST SHOT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BUT IT IS SO ADORABLE AND EVERYTHING I COULD EVER WANT IN A SHIP... WITH ALL THE TENDERNESS AND SEXINESS AND LOVE AND ... OH MY GOD ... AND THE ENDING AND HAPPINESS. AND... AND...

THEY ARE STUPID AND I HATE THEM...

Thanks for the boatload of gay!

I got sucked into the whole Marlene/Rebecca thing despite the fact that it dragged on and on. ITA on the Summer of Marlene Shouting either "I love Tristan!" or "I know you just want to feel me up while fitting my dress, you big lesbian perv!" Glad that the actress playing Marlene finally got some guidance on proper kissing.

Really liked the Bletchley Circle. Hope it comes back and that Susan & Millie make out at some point...I would accept a makeout flashback too...

I would like a captain's hat as I steer this boatload of gay to port.

The Summer was PAINFUL. I quit watching about twice, but something always sucked me back. I think the acting saved it. Both actresses looked like they were about to die just looking at each other at certain points in the story that I made the boring, repetitive writing almost worth it. I think the story could have used a few more beats during the summer to make it better. She should have broken off with Tristan long ago and there should have been a triangle with between Marlene and that model with Rebecca in the middle. Now, that would have been fun to watch. Yay for improved kissing. I mean, it is still a bit awkward, but .... it's definitely better.

Dude, you are so great with your finding all the lesbian ships.

I check livejournal really, really rarely now, but it's still better than tumblr, albeit antiquated. I mean, sure, on tumblr you can post pictures all day, but here you can have commentssss. Of a different sort than tumblr 'responses' or whatever.

Totally going to check out Verbotene Liebe and A Touch of Cloth.

What else am I going to do with my time? Have a social life? Phfffht. I'm glad my hermit ways have a definite upside.

Yeah, I miss actual comments and opinions about things. Tumblr is horrible at that. I miss conversation.

Totally going to check out Verbotene Liebe and A Touch of Cloth.

Verotene Liebe just got stupid good in the past few weeks after a long period of blah. I'd recommend starting with Rebecca and Marlene's first kiss and going from there. I hope you enjoy it.

Yes, let us not speak of how Christina Hendricks was robbed of an Emmy. I mean, I like Dame Maggie's quips on Downton as much as the next Anglophile, but...just no. Not this year.

Ooh, Bletchley Circle and A Touch of Cloth look right up my alley! And maybe we weren't speaking of Bomb Girls, but I'm super psyched that an American cable network has started airing it, especially because my ancient laptop is on its last leg thus making downloading hour-long episodes a regular bitch. Seriously, my smartphone is faster than my laptop at this point.

I did finally fall down the big dark hole called "Myka/HG" shipping just in time to see H.G. sent away so that was great timing on my part.

Noob. ;-) Not three weeks ago did I get one of my friends hooked on Warehouse 13. As I handed off my 3 seasons of DVDs for her to borrow I said, "Now, when you get to the end of Season 3, remember that I had to wait fucking nine months and twenty days to find out what happened where you get to pop on over the the Syfy website or Hulu or wherever and get an instant resolution of sorts."

I'm hoping that now that its been aired on a US channel, we'll get a DVD release here. I want this show to keep forever!!! Another recommendation is if you are missing Bomb Girls.... Call the Midwife which just started airing on PBS this past Sunday. Women in 50's era London being awesome.

Okay, so the beginning of the gif set I posted is in this clip, about six minutes in, when Greta answers the door and kisses Paloma. The scene continues the next day and that clip is over here ... about six minutes into the clip.

Ok so I watched A Touch of Cloth and this may make me crazy (because they are not quite the same genres) but it has hurt me by making me nostalgic for my beloved Death Valley :(

DEATH VALLEY. I MISS THAT SHOW SO MUCH. I actually died a little when I realized it wasn't coming back. Urgh. :(

I may have spent FOREVER looking for details about whether it was going to be renewed only to be devastated when I finally learnt the answer. It's so unfair and I don't just think that because it was taken from me before Cara and Kirsten kissed (it was totally going to happen) but because it was so, so good.

Well, it has been a long time, hasn't it? Does anyone even check LJ anymore?

What a coincidence. Been over a month since I checked this site too and usually it's only briefly.

Funny you show the gif of Britta and lesbian (that never gets old) because here in Canada the channel Comedy is airing Community from the beginning and I too have fallen in the Community bandwagon. I also am curious to check out Chicago Fire ever since seeing that trailer of Lauren German stating she's a lesbian. And J Lo is producing a lesbian series? That's interesting.

Also since both of us like Kurt Fuller, here's something I want to share if you don't know. When I was checking out the boards for the L.A. Complex over at IMDB, it was posted that Kurt is bringing over a Wonderfalls character (yes you heard that right, character not simply actor) to be in his new Hannibal series. The same article also says Kurt is planning for Hannibal to be more sunny than what we're use to. Okay is Kurt planning on having the new Hannibal series be a comedy? If he is, then that's an awesome idea. No one would ever see that one coming. Now I have to check out this series not only out of morbid curiosity (and the fact it's a Kurt Fuller series) but because like many L.A. Complex fans, I miss Alicia. I just hope Chelan Simmons (Alicia) can do both Hannibal and L.A. Complex cause many people were disappointed how Alicia was only in two brief scenes for season 2 due to Chelan Simmons signing on other projects when L.A. Complex surprisingly was renewed for a 2nd season and made into a summer show.

Too bad you couldn't find any other shows throughout these months to keep you interested. Bomb Girls was my fave show when the year began, but it has now been de-thrown by the original #2 show I was gushing about earlier, L.A. Complex. At first I was bummed my fave character and fan favourite Alicia from S1 couldn't return back full time for S2, but that hole was quickly filled when S1 guest star Georgina Reilly returned as a main cast and brought in Megan Hutchings for the first half of the season with the awesome Saying Grace storyline. Georgina is the one in the middle and Megan is the one on the left of the pic at the bottom.

http://www.contactmusic.com/pics/lf/la_complex_180612/megan-hutchings-georgina-reilly-and-dayle-mcleod_3994971.jpg

The show's creators not to forget about their Degrassi roots, brings in fun sexy times with Laura (Megan) and Degrassi Alum Cassie Steele. How could you say no to this face? http://laiscomplex.tumblr.com/post/29492374849

Though why aren't Laura's scenes posted on Youtube? I could watch them over and over again. Here's the closest I can find to them.
http://laiscomplex.tumblr.com/tagged/laura_knight (also whoever made those gifs, why would you make a gif that stops right before Laura kisses Abby?)
http://blog.muchmusic.com/the-l-a-complex-ep-5-taking-the-day/ (scroll down for a pic not posted yet)

Sabrina (Georgina) unfortunately did not do anything gay on the show (outside letting a stripper give her a lap dance), but I like her more than Nick because she's more entertaining and Georgina is clearly a superior actor to Joe (Nick). The fandom also seems to share my love for Alicia, Laura and Sabrina which is ironic since Alicia is a dancer, turned stripper, turned porn actor. Nick is the nice guy and I think we're suppose to root for him while Sabrina is the more cruel of the two and Laura is a bit crazy despite being the star of the awesome version of 7th Heaven. I think it should go without saying I got some new crushes that I even watch Megan and Georgina's other works and their indeed good actors. Though it's unfortunate Megan's pipeline is small, but good thing she was the lead actor of Nostrum cause she was easily the only good actor in that movie.

Anyways sorry for that long entry. Just feel like gushing about my new TV show love. Oh Canada, I can always count on you to keep me entertained and to bring in the gay. Funny thing is L.A. Complex is in the same boat as Degrassi in that it's seems to mainly be a teen and family show. I kid you not. You know what? I' going to write a L.A. Complex fic and bring in both lesbian fave Alex from Degrassi and Miriam McDonald too.
